Pediatric Research Projects Continue

In 2001 RAA received its first grant to provide data analysis and processing services for pediatric research.  We processed a year's worth of EMS response data for Virginia's EMS for Children program to document the incidence of pediatric response natures, and to see if we could discover patterns for different kinds of reponses within our primary service area.

Using ArcView 3.2, a GIS (geographical information systems) software application, we merged the response data with census data and crime statistics to explore correlations between our 32 response problem codes (for pediatric patients only) and the other data. We could indeed see such patterns, and this project was presented as a poster presentation to the American College of Emergency Physicians and the National Association of EMS Physicians at their annual research forums.
