Child VIP
The Child Violence and Intervention Project (Child VIP) was born out of the frustration of one pediatric emergency physician who repeatedly witnessed the inability of the local health care system to provide appropriate help for children who witnessed or experienced significant physical and emotional trauma. This physician mobilized interest and resources in the community until a grant-funded entity emerged attempt to meet this need by providing immediate psychological support and intervention, even before leaving the emergency department, for some of these pediatric victims.
RAA is a charter member of Child VIP's Steering Committee and used its involvement in pediatric research to provide the project with evidence-based EMS response data and letters of support to augment the initial and continuing grant applications. This data also helped the project focus its finite resources toward areas of the community with a demonstrated need for these services. As the project progresses, the Authority is helping create the working project structure, as well as assisting in the evaluation of project results and future needs.
