Enrollment for the Richmond Ambulance Authority's 1997 LifeSaver program is underway and city residents once again have an opportunity to guard against expensive bills for emergency ambulance service. For just $59 a year citizens of Richmond and their entire household are guaranteed unlimited emergency ambulance transport at no additional charge.

"Most people don't think about ambulance service until they need it," said Jerry Overton, executive director of the Richmond Ambulance Authority. "Quality ambulance service is expensive to provide and thus expensive for the consumer. We offer LifeSaver to city residents to helps protect them from expensive bills should they or a member of their household require emergency ambulance transportation during the year."

The average cost of an emergency ambulance transport is $450 and most insurance companies only pay part of this. The $59 LifeSaver fee protects members from additional out-of-pocket expenses for emergency ambulance transportation. Over 8,000 Richmond households recognized the value of this program and enrolled in LifeSaver last year.

"The last thing we want is for any citizen to hesitate to call us in an emergency situation because they are worried about paying the ambulance bill." Said Overton. "LifeSaver gives people peace-of-mind knowing that they will not face expensive ambulance bills in the event of an emergency. The program has been especially popular with the elderly, families with small children and those who have health problems – people more likely to need our service."

The Richmond Ambulance Authority is recognized as one of the best in the world with an emergency response time of 8 minutes or less 90% of the time. The Authority has a fleet of 26 paramedic equipped all-advance life support ambulances in addition to two critical care ambulances that serve the citizens of Richmond.

Applications for the LifeSaver program are available by calling the Richmond Ambulance Authority at 254-1150 and are due with the $59 payments by October 31, 1998.

The non-profit Richmond Ambulance Authority, in conjunction with the West End Volunteer Rescue Squad and Forest View Volunteer Rescue Squad, provide ambulance service to all residents of the City of Richmond. The LifeSaver program covers members served by all three agencies.
