Richmond Ambulance Authority has been featured in a recently published international emergency services review.  The UK published ‘Comparative review of international ambulance service best practice’ features items of best practice conducted by RAA including its Therapeutic Hypothermia project and its use of the ‘Road Safety’ black box system to monitor driver behavior  and driving safety.  The attached literature search also identifies Richmond as having one of the best response time records as well as the highest cardiac arrest survival rates when measured against the Utstien template.  RAA is also featured for its efficient Unit Hour Utilization.

Richmond Ambulance Authority Leadership Academy Class of 2009

The Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) is proud to announce the completion of its first year-long Leadership Academy class on June 30, 2009.  The Richmond Ambulance Authority Leadership Academy (RAALA) program began in July 2008 with a group of 34 supervisors, managers, directors, and chiefs meeting monthly for two hour learning sessions, supplemented with outside assignments and projects.  Each month’s session highlighted a different skill needed to be an effective leader in a high performance EMS system, including: supervisory skills; customer, community and media relations; finance, reimbursement, and compliance; leadership competencies; Myers-Briggs personal assessment; clinical and technology overviews; system status management; and the history of RAA and the City of Richmond.  The capstone of RAALA was the final session on June 30 when five groups of participants presented creative ideas for improving or enhancing RAA, which they had developed and researched.

The Richmond Technical Center, Richmond Ambulance Authority and Health Educators, Inc. to Sponsor FREE CPR Classes on June 2 in Celebration of National CPR and AED Awareness Week.

RICHMOND, Va., May 28, 2009 — The Richmond Technical Center, Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) and Health Educators, Inc. are holding free CPR classes on Tuesday, June 2 in celebration of National CPR and AED Awareness Week.  Anyone in the Richmond area who has never had CPR training or those who would like a “refresher” are encouraged to attend.  The one-hour classes will be held at the Richmond Technical Center located at 2020 Westwood Avenue with morning classes at 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.   The afternoon classes begin at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.   Participants just need to show up.  No advanced registration is required.

Chip Decker Named Interim CEO of the Richmond Ambulance Authority PDF Print E-mail
RICHMOND, Va., April 16, 2009 — Richmond Ambulance Authority (RAA) today announced that its board of directors has named Chip Decker as the Authority’s interim chief executive officer, effective April 27. The board chose Decker, who has served as chief operating officer of RAA since November 2007, in a unanimous vote. He will assume the responsibilities long held by Jerry Overton who announced in February that he will be leaving the Authority at the end of this month. Decker will serve as interim CEO until a permanent appointment is made following the board’s national search.
